CBD Tinctures
Tinctures are the most affordable way to get your CBD but there are pros and cons. Tinctures avoid the first pass effect in the liver so when you take 5mg you get more of that 5mg. Edibles typically have an availability of 10-30% so if you swallow 10mg you may only get 1-3mg. Tinctures absorb directly into your bloodstream so they do not need to go through the GI tract and then get beat up by the liver as covered in our other post How to Use CBD and Various CBD Products They act somewhat faster than edibles but not as fast as inhaling vapor from flower or concentrate. Terpenes that are naturally present in the hemp are also absorbed from tinctures – something else you miss with edibles. It is controversial whether terpenes survive the acid environment of the stomach and/or get absorbed through the stomach lining.
Here are the pros and cons of hemp CBD tinctures:
Pros:
Avoid first pass
More bioavailable
Cost effective
Long acting
Cons:
Can be messy
Most tinctures could taste better
They take a while to start working
